4 reasons why you should take the plunge and travel in 2019

It’s too expensive. It’s not safe. You’ll be homesick all the time. You’ll get lost. It’s not the right time. What about your job? You don’t speak the language. What if you don’t make any friends? What if you loose your passport?

Believe it or not, these are some of the most common excuses we come up with to avoid our travelling dreams. Sometimes we can even hear these from our family and friends…but while you dream of beautiful beaches, visiting incredible cities and villages and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone – if you listen to these excuses and reasons – then your travelling dreams will stay just that. A dream.

Here you’ll find 4 reasons why you should take the plunge and head off on your travel adventure in 2019.

But, before you go – make sure you have travel insurance in place. Want to find out more? Check out uhcsafetrip – formerly frontiermedex – to discover the cover that’s best suited to you.

It looks great on a CV

It’s true! You might be stuck in a job you hate, or perhaps you’re unsure of your next career move, whatever position your working life is in, you’d be amazed at the boost it’ll receive from having some details of your travelling adventures on your CV. Why? Well, coping well under pressure and in stressful situations, problem solving skills, honesty, charitable deeds and actions, a boost to your confidence and a welcoming and friendly personality…you name it, travelling can help turn you into the ideal candidate for any role. And what’s more, if you’re unsure of what path you want to go down, then maybe you’ll get some inspiration whilst you’re on the road.

Increase your self-development

It’s a huge cliché, but there’s some truth behind the idea that people who travel hope to “discover” and “find” themselves. If you have no idea who you really are, or what you’re capable of, then travelling will help you get there. You’ll become kinder, more considerate and grateful for the little things in life. And that’s a great start.

You’ll appreciate your lot in life

Once you’ve experienced a hospital in a developing country, the slums in Brazil, or a terrifying bus journey on a single track road up the side of mountain then you’ll certainly learn to appreciate the little things a lot more. Perhaps there being no socket by the bed for your phone charger isn’t such a bad thing after all. You’ll find you care less about what people might think and learn to really live in the moment and appreciate the here and now. You’ll be grateful for a hot drink in the middle of a monsoon and a mattress – lumpy or not – after a 12 hour bus journey.

New skills

Developing new skills comes as standard when you travel. From becoming a true conversationalist, to becoming familiar with woodwork after helping to build a school. Even your photography skills will get a boost.
