A Botched Christmas Photo Shoot

Never work with children or animals is how the saying goes.

It seems I am at a disadvantage already here.

I had a dream.

A dream of taking a winter-themed photograph of my children that I could adorn Christmas cards.

A dream that the dog would join them, dressed in a festive outfit.

A dream of nostalgic glances, loving looks or, at the very least smiles.

As it was, I am not sure any of them all looked at the camera at the same time.

I tried with a well-thought-out back drop (a roll of wrapping paper taped to the living room wall).
A sledge, a white sheet and two snow blankets.

The best photo does not have Boo on and the dog is standing in front of the radiator which is not covered in wrapping paper.

I was going to say nothing and edit the pictures and then place them on the cards like nothing else had happened.

This is real life though. My life.

There is enough airbrushing as it is.

I think I love them even more because of my botched attempt at being creative.

I have learnt a valuable life lesson. With children and animals, you can plan ahead as much as you like but, if on the day one or all of them decide they don’t want to be photographed, don’t want to smile or have their nappy leak in his new Christmas trousers (thank goodness for stain remover), they will.

I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Merry November.

  1. hahaha love this Emma, good on you for giving it a go and they all look so cute! Blimmin hilarious though, I think I would have gotten very frustrated. Don’t give up on your dream there’s always next year hehe 🙂 xx

  2. Oh these are great! They are full of personality! I had real trouble doing my daughter’s 1st birthday pics, but I was looking through them last night and they capture her spirit and the fact she never sits still! x
