A Rainy Afternoon and the Nativity Story

The weather has been simply frightful and, having two children cooped up indoors is not delightful. At all.

With Storm Desmond battering the farm, I had to think and think quickly.

We are delaying putting the Christmas tree up this year because of one very inquisitive baby who I have visions of climbing the tree but I have slowly been bringing out the other decorations.

Boo is practising for her very first school Nativity play and she knows the story and can sing Away in a Manger, no problem.

So out came the crib this afternoon. In addition to our Fisher Price Little People Crib which I wrote about last year,* I also got a Happyland Nativity set from Early Learning Centre-just because we love Christmas so much and the Baby Jesus from the first set has been out all year and is currently missing in action, feared lost.

Boo was so excited with the toys and, to be honest, Baby G just liked the sack but did like the Christmas train.

I then remembered a lovely book we had- My Carry Along Nativity from Lion Children’s Books.

What better way to learn about the Nativity than to act it out with the little people and then read all about it?

The book is lovely and even has a built in handle. There are poems, spot the difference activities, stories, things to make and Boo’s favourite-stickers.

The book is full of Bible paragraphs-it is the reason for the season afterall and the religious aspect, as with all Lion Children’s Books, is presented in a fun way. The book is beautifully illustrated and would make either a lovely stocking filler or a good idea for a Christmas Eve box if you do them in your family.

Despite the stickers now covering our crib, I feel as though Boo has a much better understanding of the reason we celebrate Christmas. I just don’t know how we are going to avoid singing Happy Birthday to Jesus on Christmas Day.

*Last year, in my Crib post, I said I had got the Fisher Price Little People Nativity from Amazon because I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I have actually seen it for sale in Toys R Us.

**We were sent the My Carry Along Nativity from Lion Children’s Books for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.
