A Sparrow Nest at the Farm

We have an abundance of birds at the farm. Swallows and lapwings are the most welcome as they signify different times of the year.

We must have a robin nest somewhere as there is one or two who frequent our garden and we have bird feeders positioned on trees in front of our window so we can quietly (most of the time) watch them.

On a few separate occasions, the farmer and I heard scratching in the roof above our office area and we both raised eyebrows at each other. Obviously on a farm, scratching could mean a number of things.

Thankfully, one day whilst I was in the garden, I saw a sparrow fly into the eaves and I think we both breathed a sigh of relief. There is no where else the sparrow can go up there so their little family is very welcome.

In another part of the house though, I had heard quite a but of chirping when we were in the garden.

The heras fencing is still up to keep the mini farmers safe from climbing over the fence and I spotted a little sparrow sat on it directly opposite me.

We have a garden bench under the eaves so I can sit there and keep an eye on the children. More observations took place and I was on the phone to my mum when I stopped still and saw the sparrow disappear into the eaves.

I was so delighted and couldn’t believe I had caught it on a photo. As time has got on, Mr Sparrow and I tolerate each other. I remain quiet and he flies in and out of the nest.

I am yet to catch a glimpse of Mrs Sparrow. Maybe she is sat on the nest, I don’t know but I am quite happy to see this little family hopefully grow.

With the children eating a lot of their meals outside at the moment, there is certainly plenty of food around for birds.

I have called the little bird Jack.
