An Animal Head Explosion at the Farm

I love a bit of taxidermy. I think I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with weird things so I was so pleased that living in a farmhouse meant I could embrace my love of stuffed animals.

Indeed I have always joked with the farmer that should anything happen to Rosie, I would love to get her stuffed.

Alas the price of any real weird wonders are way out of my price range but don’t worry, in the last couple of years, there has been a veritable explosion of faux-animal heads to suit any room.

As usual at the farm though, they have multiplied.

It all started with a ceramic bull head that I hung above the stairs. It has since moved to the boys’ room and it looks great with the farm theme in there. Thy like to hang things off it too.

I spent ages dreaming of a stag head to go with my country-style living room and, on a visit to a nearby garden centre one Christmas, I found my stag and the farmer found what to buy me for Christmas. Boris (as the stag was named) has since moved rooms like the cow and he is, in many ways part of the family. Sometimes the children introduce him when people come around.

My daughter’s bedroom was next and her rainbows and unicorn theme needed a unicorn head. My cousin bought her an absolutely beautiful flocked one for Christmas this year and I love looking at it.

The summer of 2018 when we had a bit of a dry spell saw some of our ponds dry and I was delighted to find a sheep skull at the bottom. I braved the silt in totally inappropriate footwear and caught my bounty. I had great plans for it but one of the kids (unbeknown to me) knocked it off the table outside and the dog ate it. I couldn’t believe it.

So the children all had an animal head in their rooms and there was one in our main living area. It was just our bedroom that was lacking any kind of fake taxidermy.

When we did our bedroom up before Christmas, I was beyond excited to introduce Cynthia the swan to the family. Unfortunately for her, the children call her a goose but it’s all fun at the farm.

I am just trying to work out what I can hang in the kitchen. Maybe a chicken head.
