Another Puppy and a Bit of a Change Around

Since my last post about getting our little Norfolk terrier puppy, Ruby, things have changed around here quite a bit.

Originally when we had gone to get Ruby, I had my eye on her sister too. I asked Hubster for them both which he said no to but, I winked at the owner and said if the little one with the black back didn’t sell, to let us know. I took the picture (above) of her so I was obviously in love.

She didn’t sell.

I think we always knew she would come to live here and we called her Rusty-Lee but what happened next was not planned at all.

We lasted a week with the two puppies and our old girl Rosie in the house. I was disinfecting the floor twice a day and I honestly didn’t mind.

My husband the farmer however did.

He just isn’t used to having dogs in the house. They have always lived outside in kennels or porches. Indeed we have three farm dogs who live outside already.

He always joked that he made an exception for Rosie because she is special. So one morning I got up (Hubster got up first) and I couldn’t find Ruby. I called her from the door but still no sign and then I looked out of the kitchen window. She was sat in one of the outdoor kennels with Archie, our other Norfolk terrier.

I cried. Hubster brought her back. We lasted another day and then Hubster put his foot down and said three dogs in the house was too much.

So there it is.

To add to that, Hubster said he was changing Ruby’s name so she is now called Tutsy. I was a bit annoyed at that as, if I had known, I would have called Rusty Ruby. I then decided that I didn’t like Rusty (Hubster had chosen it) and I turned to social media to help me name our little cute one.

I toyed with Bella, Bronte, Ruby. In the end, we have called her Mabel and I think she really suits it.

When I rang the vets to organise getting Mabel injected, I joked saying this was the last one. The girl on the phone said it will have to be because they can’t fit any more animals on their system.

Six dogs!
