Recently, we got sent a lovely children’s book and I have a confession to make. I read the first chapter to Boo and G at bedtime and it was so good that I whisked it downstairs after bedtime and read the rest in one sitting.
You see, The Magical Adventure of Little Alf-The Discovery of the Wild Pony by Hannah Russell is right up our street.
Little Alf is a miniature Shetland Pony and his owner, Hannah was just 17 when she wrote the book.
Since the publication, the world of Little Alf has grown (unlike Little Alf himself who has a form of horse dwarfism so is actually even smaller than a usual miniature Shetland) and now Little Al has another two books to his name and a whole host of merchandise from clothing to toys.
Hannah self-published the first three books and did all the illustrations herself. She has now been taken on by a publisher and has spent the best part of the last year travelling around the country for book signings and appearances.
Myself and the two children were also sent some lovely clothing. Available in both adult and child sizes, it would make the ideal gift for horse lovers and animal enthusiasts and especially if you have a horse yourself.
The book we reviewed is aimed at tween and teen readers but my two still enjoyed it being read to them and let’s face it, I am well over the teenage era myself and I loved it.
It really does capture the imagination and details what happens on livery yards and riding schools so if you have a child with an interest, the book may well allow them to see if horse riding is for them.
For a 17-year-old girl to write such an amazing story, I am seriously excited to read what is to come next.
Not only does Hannah write amazingly though, she also gives something back. She works closely with Riding for the Disabled charity and you can just sense the passion in Hannah which I think is such a rare and wonderful thing.
Hannah is also very kind and has offered one lucky reader of my blog the chance to win The Magical Adventure of Little Alf and a pink Little Alf T-Shirt (child size large for ages 9-10 years). To be in with a chance of winning, enter via the Rafflecopter below.
