Chicken Stealing at the Farm

Ever since I got our very first two hens (Daphne and Pearl), way back in 2012, I have loved everything chicken.

Over the last five years, I have accumulated a lot of chicken things. Plates, cups, cushions, doorstops.

If there is a choice of anything with chickens on it, I choose it.

I even get excited when I find chicken kitchen roll and, better still, napkins.

I love the sales after Easter when normal people would not think of buying chick and hen items but here, due to my love to our feathered friends, it is Easter all year round.

I especially love egg holders. I must own four. They are so pretty-especially with different coloured eggs on them.

It is the gradual theft of chickens that I thought I would share with you today.

Don’t worry, the police need not be called.

The chickens I steal are not the live variety. Where they come from though is no less shameful.

I have been stealing chickens from my very own children.

I know.

You see, those little farm sets all have some kind of chicken in them.

Well, they already have my name on them so I spirit them away for my little display shelf.

I even bought myself a Hei Her soft toy from the Disney Store but I actually felt guilty about that so I have put it away for Christmas. My love of chickens has been passed on to G. This in itself is a blessing and a curse though.

When the shelf gets dusted and the toys ornaments get cleaned, the children (more so G) often steal them back.

The cheek of it!

How dare they play with their own toys.

The thing is, some of these chicken toys are really cute and look lovely on my shelf. I am doing the children a favour really because if they weren’t on the shelves, they would surely get lost.

I can’t see my love of chicken items waning any time soon. Everyone needs something to collect though don’t they?
