Dating For Goats

There comes a time in every nanny goat’s life when they have to look for a partner.

It’s a big step. Not just any old Billy will do.

How big is he? What colour is he?

Is he friendly?

Is he proven?

The last few weeks here has honestly been like Tinder for goats.

I have had a few adverts strategically placed and been asking around.

Like most things with me though, the end result seems like it was meant to be.

A goat stud costs around £60 so I have been looking at little Billy kids to buy as I thought it would be more economical. They could mate my two girls and then I could stud him out myself.

I found two kids locally and rang the number. At £80, it did seem more economical.

Unfortunately, the kids are sold but the lady whose goats they are, turns out to be as crazy as me and the original kid’s Daddy arrived at our farm today.

It has worked out for the best.

Usually, you send the female goats to the place where the Billy lives.

I wasn’t 100 per cent happy with this.

What if they wouldn’t give my beloved goats back?

What if something happened to them?

This Billy is advertised for £200 to buy because he is so valuable a stud but he is staying with us for two weeks for the £60 stud fee for fun, frolics and hopefully, fornication.

He arrived, amusingly in the back of someone’s car. You couldn’t write it.

He smells so bad.

Baby goats is the hope. I will be happy with one each for Chocolate and Chip but apparently, Mr Goat has provided other lady goats with triplets.

I can only dream.

I suppose the only problem with more than one kid is I will have to hand rear some. Oh the hardship.

In our crazy world, what’s another mouth to feed, right?
