Getting A Bit Ahead of Myself On The Farm-Failed Projects Again

I am guilty of doing stupid things a lot of the time but my recent escapades have been funny even by my own standards.

I really want a produce stand at the farm-you know so that passers-by can buy half a dozen eggs, that kind of thing.

I have been researching profusely on Pinterest and, when we went to buy the alpacas, the people we bought them off had a stand and I took a photo of it and admired it lovingly every so often.

How hard can it be? Having no previous experience in wood work, I got a crash course in using the drill off our friend (the farmer is a very impatient teacher), bought the screws and nails and set to work.

I found a pile of old wood and sawed it all down to the sizes I guessed. I was mentally writing the blog post in my head-impressing you all with my amazing, easy-to-make farm produce stand.

It wasnโ€™t easy to transport the wood across the farm with a toddler so I put the baby in the basket of my trike bike and rode around to the workshop with the wood across the basket. Not the most safe way to travel but I rode very slowly.

The farmer nearly fell off his tractor seat when he came around the corner to see me sawing.

I found an old pallet and put wood around so that when it was placed on an angle on the legs, the eggs would not fall off.

Then I attached the four legs which seemed a bit flimsy but I decided they would be stronger when the cross supports were in place.

One of the children needed to go to the bathroom so off we went inside.

On my return, the whole thing had fallen apart and I am not ashamed to say, I almost cried with frustration.

The funniest part? The hens are not even laying yet.

Undeterred, I turned to my other project-my grow your own plot. I got two raised beds off my local selling site and duly filled them with top soil and well rotted manure, ready for the plants to go in when I am 100 per cent sure the final frosts are over.

I suppose most people would be spending time potting out seedlings and other essential jobs.

Me? I made a scarecrow for the crops which are yet to even be planted. We do have crows at the farm but I honestly doubt they will be making a bee-line for my raised beds. It does look cute though.

I may be slightly mad but at least my little silly ideas keep me out of trouble and keep the children amused. At one point, I asked them if they could tell what it was yet and they just looked at me with wide eyes and a bemused look on their faces.

Back to the drawing board. Again. I definitely like to count my eggs (and plants) before they hatch or grow.
