Owning and maintaining your home is an on-going process and one that can be challenging at times. Home repairs and issues seem to crop up at the worst possible times, usually when you have the least time and resources to deal with them. From roof repairs, to HVAC issues and issues with your plumbing, finding professionals to address the repairs can become another headache.

If you have had issues with your hot water or your toilets are backed up, you have probably already run to your computer and frantically typed the words plumber near me into your search bar. That’s one way to do it but there are a few other ways that you can source a qualified local plumber to save the day.

  1. Local Referrals-one way to find a local plumber in your area is to ask for referrals and recommendations in your hometown or neighbourhood. Getting recommendations from other homeowners in your area is a great way to find out details of how the plumber does business and how the plumber handles things from start to finish. Get at least two referrals so you are getting more than just one person’s opinion or experience with your potential plumber.
  1. Check That They Are Licensed and Insured-ensure you are finding a plumber who is licensed and insured to work in your state. You will want to verify that the person that you are hiring to work on your plumbing issues is not only technically capable of the job, but that they are fully licensed and insured. This will protect you from any liability charges that could occur if there is an accident while the plumber is working on the job on your property.
  1. Online Search-if getting referrals and recommendations locally isn’t something you have time to commit to then a simple search online can get you moving in the right direction. There are many online directories that list skilled workers in your area that you can call to get quotes for your project or repair quickly and efficiently.
  1. Compare Quotes-once you have narrowed down your search to a few highly-recommended plumbers in your area you will want to call them and ask for quotes for your project. Get a few quotes and compare them. Most plumbers should come out to your home or business to provide an estimate. Getting an estimate over the phone is rarely accurate and most professionals will insist on coming out to see what’s going on before they will quote you a price-even ballpark.
  1. Directory Searches-you can always pull out your local Yellow or White pages and check out the business section for local plumbers in your area. Depending on where you live many local construction workers and tradesman list their businesses in business directories in their local phone books. Local newspapers are another great source for plumbers right in your area that can usually take on the job quickly and efficiently.

If you take the time to do your homework before you hire and you should be able to find a qualified and reliable professional to take on your repair.

  1. It’s a bit of a minefield isn’t it? I always go for a personal recommendation, I’m so scared of somebody doing a terrible job and us being left with a heating or water system that doesn’t work.
