Siblings, January 2019

As I wrote my last siblings post, we were still gearing up for Christmas and now, in a blink of an eye, I am on the first post of 2019 and it is all over for another year.

I think the build up was a bit much for all of them really and I do hope to remember next year to try and tone it down as much as I can.

All things considered though, we had a wonderful time. It was quiet and I think it is what they all needed.

In the summer holidays, I do stress out about filling their time with activities and fun but I think at the Christmas break, it is good to just let them unwind. The last few months, my eldest has been leaving and coming home from school in the dark and I do think this has a big impact on her. She is much more tired in winter and she really benefitted from the break.

A couple of weeks before Christmas we had a fake Christmas at my parents’ house to see family who we wouldn’t be spending the big day with. We got a rare photo of the five of us and a merry time was had by all.

The boys enjoyed some baking days and park life as nursery broke up before school. When school finally finished, we had a cosy movie afternoon with popcorn and Pringles and also made sure we had fresh air every day.

The annual Christmas pyjama pic was a triumph and I still pat myself on the back for getting three children of differing ages and genders to twin.

Christmas Day itself was a whirlwind of energy and excitement and it continued to Boxing Day. There were eight of us for the festive feast and I had joked that I would have to do a side of jam sandwiches for one of the boys but he managed his Christmas dinner with a side of Dairylea triangles. It doesn’t bother me. These phases don’t last and it was his Christmas dinner too.

We had a quiet day Boxing Day and, by the 27th we were craving fresh air and excitement. The farmer bought a trailer for the back of the quad bike so we piled it with straw and set off on a farm ride.

They all loved it and order was restored.

It is difficult with having three children of quite varying ages at times but toys are universal-especially new ones off Father Christmas and I have really enjoyed watching them play (and bicker) like never before.

January is such a busy month here with two out of the three birthdays so we have a lot to look forward to now. Mostly cake and balloons.

  1. Totally with you on this. I think a break is much needed by the time Christmas comes around. We largely hibernated too and it did us all the world of good. Looks like the little ones had a ball! xxx
