I’ve always loved magazines. I am a journalist so I suppose it is part of my job description to keep up with the business.
I am not sure this stretches to the celebrity gossip magazines I also have a penchant for but I tell myself, I am researching type faces and that kind of thing.
I seems though that my love of all things in print has been picked up by Boo, my four-year-old daughter and she too likes looking at the rows of printed material that is marketed at children.
First Friends by Fun to Learn is a new magazine, just launched, and we have had the opportunity to take a look.
Like every good children’s magazine, there is a free gift on the front. In issue one, it is a Hungry Caterpillar tea set which is always a winner, especially for the imagination. As with most children, this is the first thing Boo spotted and wanted to play with it immediately.
She has a pattern with magazines and the next thing she looked for was stickers.
Thankfully there are an abundance of these too including favourites such as Woolly and Tig, Abney and Teal, Spot the Dog, Elmer and the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
There are stories and the language used is very simple so will aid early readers and each page has a ‘grown-ups’ tip to help parents point out things and help their children to learn.
There are colouring activities, painting, a poster, games, spot the difference, and competitions.
I am really impressed with issue one as is little Miss Boo. I particularly like the paper used as it is suitable for drawing on. So many publishers use paper too shiny to enable children to draw on it.
Well done First Friends. We are looking forward to Issue 2.
I have five copies of First Friends to give away. To be in with a chance, fill in the Rafflecopter below.
