Any Dream Will Do when you’ve got the ultimate musicals CD

When I was growing up I loved musical theatre. The songs, the stories, the stars.

To be honest I had forgotten just how much I loved it until the lovely people at PPR Publicity sent me a copy of The Ultimate Musicals Experience on CD.

Now we’ve all bought compilation albums and despaired when we’ve actually played them-finding only a handful of songs on it that we actually know and like. I think personally, you just accept this as a side-effect of compilation albums.

If you buy The Ultimate Musicals Experience, you can kiss that side-effect goodbye.

As I began to listen, the biggest songs from the biggest musicals sung by the biggest musical stars began flowing out of my CD player.

As I continued listening, I thought to my self-I bet Starlight Express isn’t on here-it was.

Think of any musical you can think of-The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Chicago, Evita-they’re all on and a few I haven’t heard of that I enjoyed just as much. There’s even a version of I Will Always Love You sung by Michael Ball from The Bodyguard the Musical-I’ve obviously missed something brilliant there.

It seems shows like Any Dream will Do and How Do You Solve a problem like Maria on primetime television have awakened people’s love of musicals again and the love is not dwindling.

Despite, the Olympics last year, sales of the theatre tickets in the West End rose for the ninth consecutive year and with shows like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Commitments due to open soon, this trend looks set to continue.

If we introduce our children to such brilliant music, it can only be a good thing as they will begin to appreciate what amazing shows we have in Britain.

I’m just glad none of you could hear me belting some of these classics out. My little girl was looking at me with a mix of admiration on her face and horror.

Let’s face it, with Christmas coming up, it would make a fab present for someone. Even a lovely little ‘me’ present for yourself. House work gets done so much faster when you’re singing You Can’t Stop the Beat.
