Dreaming of a Country Boot Room

Some people dream big. Some dreams don’t sound big to others but are to the dreamer and I think, this is where my dream lies.

When we moved to the farm six years ago, I had never lived on a farm before. I was wet behind the ears, as they say in these parts.

I had no idea about mud. The sheer amount of mud when it rains that gets tramped though your house. The summer dust, the hay and straw that gets into little (and big) people’s socks and pants.

I should have asked for a boot room when they were renovating our side of the house. My mother in law’s side has one. I just didn’t know.

I am continually mop my kitchen floor-only for it to be covered in paw and foot prints within minutes seconds.

I therefore have a dream.

For a boot room.

How rock and roll is that? Not a yacht, not a holiday home in Barbados. A boot room.

A room that will take all the mud, dirt and grime away from my kitchen.

A place where muddy boots can be kicked off. A place where hats, gloves, scarves and waterproofs can be hung up or tidied into baskets. A place where dog leads can be lain.

I obviously have a Pinterest board set up. The boot room would solve ALL of my problems. All of them. My whole life will be that bit more organised down to just that one room.

My one woman campaign is in full swing with the farmer. I have promised him the world for this boot room. He is a bit politician in his ways though and continually says we will talk about it at a later date.

I felt by writing this post, the whole world can hold him to account to make my dream come true.

There is one other little reason I want the new boot room. Obviously, you don’t need to tell him this bit.

I want another dog. I can get a lovely tweed bed for the boot room for my Labrador puppy.

Oops.

Until the green light is given, you will find me adding to my Pinterest board and stalking the lovely Katie from Heels and Hooves who has just got a new Labrador puppy.

Please Mr L.

  1. I’d love a boot room. We have a tiny utility room but the door to outside is currently blocked by the chest freezer so shoes are trampled through the kitchen first. I wouldn’t want it to be the main entrance though, just one we use. My idea is that the things in there are to be hidden. Guests need another entrance. Good luck, I hope you get the ball rolling for one soon.

  2. Mud!!! annoying!!!! I hope you get a boot room soon 🙂 I need our porch converting to a boot room – or rather a running sho room – The Husband has about 15 pairs + work boots. me? I have one pair closed toe shoes and birkies/slippers downstairs (all my Irrecular choice are safely upstairs in a cupboard)
    love Bec xx

  3. WE have a huge utility room but it only helps keep the boots and coats/overalls out there. There’s still straw, mud and the like traipsed through. We also have a downstairs shower which is meant to be for mucky people before they come in the house. It never gets used, everyone just uses the nice shower upstairs. Would love a fancy boot room though – our utility room is rammed with bins, an old table, N’s bike, electric cool box and everything else that has no other space because the OH won’t have a shed!

    1. Oh I think we need a shed too!! I don’t think people who are not farming families understand how much straw there is 😉

  4. Yes! I want a boot room too and I don’t even live on a farm. But my stable stuff needs a home other than my car and imagine how cute I could make it for Woody. All cosy! Thanks for featuring him xxx
