How to Make a Printed Table Cloth for Crafts

There are many times I put off activities like painting and play dough because of the mess.

I do feel a bit mean about it though so I came up with a painting craft activity which will help on the future.

Boo and I spend an afternoon making a craft table cloth.

I picked up the paper table cloth for £2 from Asda and it was a big, thick one. Perfect for withstanding heavy-handed children.

I spread it over the kitchen table and got out some paint pads and stamps-in hearts and flowers design.

We then had a great time creating our design.

It was a great activity in terms of helping with colour recognition-especially as, after a while, the original paints started to change colour and, as the stamps were re-used with old paint on them, we started to get browns, purples and greens.

The stamps themselves have foam in the part that you hold which means you don’t need to get messy (me) if you don’t want to. You also don’t have to exert loads of pressure on them so they would be suitable for younger children as well as the older ones.

The paint pad had plenty of paint in it and we have put the top back on for our next stamp-painting adventure. The only draw back I found was initially, the cellophane was quite hard to remove but it is off now so that won’t affect us next time and it certainly didn’t affect the painting.

Boo had a ball. She loves painting and at least with our new craft table cloth, I no longer have an excuse to say no.

In fact, we have been using play dough already. It has been a lesson to me that children really do need a bit of messy play in their lives. The creative juices were flowing at the farm this week plus we have a lovely new table cloth. I think I might buy a coloured one for our next tablecloth painting adventure.

We received the stamps and paints from Baker Ross as part of our ambassadorship with them. All opinions are my own.
