My Boy is 8 Months Old

titleImagine the Incredible Hulk as a baby. That is what Baby G is like. He has a vice-like grip and whether it be hair, skin on your arm, your nose, a toy, food or something he isn’t supposed to have, those little fingers hold on for dear life.

Considering his last monthly update, he had cut his first tooth, we now have six teeth. I can’t quite believe that. The bottom two look really cute when he does that little cheeky smile. The top four can only be seen if you lift his lip up but they are there.

Weaning is going great. He loves everything. I lost the jug to my liquidiser when we started weaning so I have been using a hand-held device to mush food. This means he is used to a much more textured food and he deals with lumps brilliantly.

Yoghurt is still his favourite but crumpets are up there now as well as toast and his favourite meal so far has been sausage, mash and beans. I take the sausage out of the skin and mash it with the beans and potatoes.

On a shopping trip this month, he even tried the new Ella’s Kitchen Christmas Dinner which I think I was more excited about than him.

Also big news this month, the boy can move. I would not call it crawling but he can get from one side of the room to the other by either rolling, bottom shuffling or crawling backwards. He also does what I can only describe as a plank where he lifts himself up. His stomach muscles are obviously much better than mine.

He loves everyone but he is fascinated by Rosie, our dog. If she is in the room with us he never takes his eyes off her. I just have to watch it as we did have a fur-in-the-hand incident (see vice-like grip above).

It is Boo his sister who lights up his world though and I think her playing hard-to-get makes him love her more.

If she is playing he rolls over to say hello and we have choruses of ‘away George’ from Sissy-Roo. She does love him and is excited when he gets up from a sleep but there is definite toy boundaries being set up. It doesn’t matter how much I say that the baby is sharing with Boo, if he goes near anything that is hers, even if she hasn’t played with it for three years, she behaves like a territorial cat.

At his last weigh in, he came in at just over 21 pounds. He is such a chunk and I am having to put him in the pram for the school run now as my arms and back are suffering under his chubbiness.

Some of his 6-9 month clothes are snug and, as it is getting colder-especially in a morning, I am putting him in some of the warmer 9-12 month pieces.

I can’t believe another month has passed.

My boy is eight months old.

  1. Ah wow the months are flying by. Bum shuffling is so cute, it sounds like he’s going to be ultra speedy soon. We used to love Ella so much, they didn’t have the Christmas dinner back then though. I used to love trying all the different pouches 😀

  2. Awwww … how lovely! Such nice times. And six teeth is impressive! He has two on my 14-month-old. So lovely to read about a little one. #maternitymondays

  3. Ahh so sweet! I love how you update. The movement is so exciting and I also really think the way he idolises his big sis is gorgeous. Makes me feel hopeful if we ever have a second! And ooo Ella’s chrimbo ones…how exciting indeed!! #maternitymondays

  4. Oh gorgeous! Chunky boys are brilliant, they are just so robust! Lovely photos, and a great reminder of what it’s like with an 8 month old.

  5. Ah wow this is literally like reading about my little one. Taylor is 9.5 months now so I can relate to so much of what you’ve said. We have a dog too and yes, I’m scared for him rather than for her – clumps of hair in the hand makes me feel so guilty for him! It’s great when they are such good eaters – perhaps its the teeth? Mine has eight now! It’s amazing how much they develop in the first year isn’t it? Great that he’s loving his sister. He’s a beaut x
