My last pregnancy?

Before you get married, I think it’s really important to discuss whether you want children with your future spouse. For the simple reason that it must be awful if one partner wants kids but the other doesn’t.

To be honest, I can’t ever remember ‘the chat’ and, as it was, we had our chief bridesmaid 11 months before the wedding anyway so we knew we did want children.

We have never really had a chat about how many we would try to have. It has taken so long to get this far with baby number two that I suppose we thought it might never happen but on Saturday night, Hubster dropped a bombshell.

I think we will stay with two.

I was shocked and unprepared for this.

I am an only child and Hubster is one of four. I have joked throughout this whole pregnancy that if it’s not a boy, Hubster will make me have more. It seems he isn’t as bothered as I thought about an heir though and says two will be enough-even if it is a girl.

I just never imagined this as my last pregnancy. I thought we might have one more after this. I bought a maternity dress for Christmas and tried to buy one that would be suitable should I go on to have a summer pregnancy one day.

I am not being greedy. We know more than anyone that you can’t plan these things. Fate and other factors get in the way.

We may not even get pregnant again but, until now, I just hadn’t thought of this baby as my last.

I have not moaned half as much during this pregnancy as when I was carrying Boo. Despite being a lot sicker and it sometimes feeling like it is trampolining on my internal organs, I am just so grateful to have got past 12 weeks and that, up to now, we still have a wriggly baby in my tummy.

I couldn’t have enjoyed the pregnancy more even if I had known it might be my last pregnancy as I am still so worried about having a healthy baby at the end of it.

I just wish we’d had the chat before.

I don’t think I’ll be ready to get rid of cots and newborn sleep suits after this one. To think these will be my last nappies and night feeds. This will be my last birth-yes even that makes me feel a bit sad.

I asked Hubster what we would do if I still felt broody after this one and do you know what he said?

We will have to get you another dog.

Hehehe have you had the numbers chat?

  1. We have had lots of numbers chats. Early on we both wanted 3 or I even liked the idea of 4… But now we are stopping at 2. I just don’t deal well with pregnancy, don’t want another surgery, and actually find babies such hard work! But there us a level of sadness when we put things away that will now never be used again. Such a difficult decision it really is and must be hard if you’re not in the same page! Xx

  2. oh I can really relate to that! We’ve had our second child in January and my hubby told me straight away after that this is it… we’re not having another one! I’m also an only child and always wanted to have a big family but at the same time I’m very very grateful that I have two healthy children! You never know, he might change his mind…

  3. I wanted 3 but I have 2 and really do not want any more. I’m growing less attached to baby things as the days progress and really love the thought I never have to change any more nappies And never have to breast feed again.

  4. I always wanted 3 or 4. Reality kicked in though and I’m more then happy with just my two now. They are hard work and I think my body would fail with another pregnancy. My SPA is still paid full now almost 3 years on from my last birth. Thankfully it’s not everyday now. It does make a huge difference from 2 to 3 for holidays and cars etc. And still means you x an have 1:1 attention. It’s not all bad. 🙂

  5. Oh yes we had it recently. Whilst I understand my hubby point of view I have ALWAYS wanted a big family. At least three no less and he is now saying absolutely no more children. We are all allergic to animals too so I can’t even get a dog b baby either. boo. I wish I would have known that when I was prego with MM I could have said goodbye to being pregnant easier. Just made me want one more than ever now. lol Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me and for all the amazing linky support in 2014! I can’t thank you enough. Happy Holidays! #sharewithme

  6. We’ve never had a numbers chat but we both always wanted children, we had one, then another, then another and now I would still have another but hubby is adamant that three is enough. I am more than happy with three and I will forever be broody, if I have 4, 5, 6, 7 I just think it is me to forever want to be pregnant and have babies I love everything about it! But I also love watching my three little ones growing up and being able to supply them with what they need without struggling so I think three is my magic number 🙂
