Outdoor Theatre and More This Summer at Ordsall Hall, Salford

A few months ago, I attended a blogger event at the amazing Ordsall Hall in Salford.

I had never visited before and almost ignored my SatNav when I was driving through the built up Salford Quays. How could a Tudor Mansion be nestled amongst this?

I am pleased to say I was wrong and I actually gasped as I drove along and saw it.

I fell in love with the place and had an amazing time and the best thing?

The hall, run by Salford Community Leisure, has a packed events calendar throughout the year.

This summer, there are a number of outdoor theatre shows to see amid the stunning backdrop of the hall.

As a massive Shakespeare fan, I was initially attracted to The Tempest or Much Ado About Nothing but I had to have a bit of a reality check because the likelihood of my three little hooligans sitting through Shakespeare is unlikely at the moment but fear not because David Walliam’s Gangsta Granny is winging her way to Salford and we are going to see her.

So next week, we are packing up a picnic, a blanket and a whole sack full of excitement to introduce the children to not just theatre but outdoor theatre at the most beautiful house and garden location.

Gangster Granny is about Ben, an 11 year old fed up with spending his Friday nights at Granny’s. All she wants to do is play Scrabble and eat cabbage – not exactly his idea of fun! Hungry and bored Ben goes searching for something more edible in the kitchen and stumbles upon an old biscuit tin. The tin holds more than just digestives, however; it contains Granny’s biggest secret… Ben’s Granny is an international jewel thief, and she needs his help to pull off her biggest heist yet, stealing the crown jewels!
It is on at Ordsall Hall on Wednesday 31 July and Tuesday 27 August 2019, 1.00 – 3.00pm. It costs £16 for adults and £10 per child with under 5’s free.

If you get the opportunity to visit with either older children or alone, The Tempest is on Saturday 3 August 2019, 6.30 – 9.00pm. Adults are £16 Adult (£12 Early Bird Adult), child tickets are £10 and for this performance, under 10’s are free.

Much Ado About Nothing is on Sunday 11 August 2019, 6.30 – 9.00pm with prices the same as the Tempest. The is a great comedy play for a summer evening.

The classic Emily Bronte novel, Wuthering Heights is brought to the Ordsall Hall outdoor stage on Thursday 15 August 2019, 6.30 – 9.00pm. £16 Adult, £10 Child, under 5’s free.

As well as the theatre tickets, you can also pre-order picnic and refreshment packages from £5.95.

There really is something for everyone this summer in Salford and for the who can’t get to the theatre, the hall itself is open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm and Sundays 1pm to 4pm.

We have been gifted tickets for Gangster Granny but all opinions are my own.
