Siblings, November 2019

Halloween has dominated the last month of siblings. I am pleased to say that all outfits were worn more than once so we have definitely had our monies worth.

An annual Halloween disco took place at my eldest boy’s school and I took the three children. I was pleased the youngest wanted to be a pumpkin because a) we had the outfit from last year and b) it was much easier keeping an eye on all three of them in the dark because the orange was really easy to see amongst the sea of witches and ghouls.

We got out newest family member, Baby Bell the chihuahua and the siblings have accepted her into their pack with glee. I am not quite sure how we have kept her alive for the last few weeks, as she is so tiny and the boys are so rough but she is still here.

Half term landed and we were all relieved. No school run and the middle one’s first full half term at school. We were all ready for a break. The first half of the week, I tried to keep quiet so they could have a rest and choose to do what they wanted. Friends came and farm walks took place.

Then it was my birthday and it was the first year that they all rallied round to make it special. It was so lovely. I received a lot of toys that used to belong to the kids and that they then took back. Happy Birthday was sung more than once and, there was an incident with a candle in a piece of toast. It was so nice.

The very next day was Halloween and I set up our annual treasure hunt around the farm. I always hope these hunts will last a whole morning but such is their speed and excitement, they usually last around ten minutes. Still, they were pleased with their loot and we then had a spooky tea and looked at their new Halloween books.

The next treat was the cinema to see Shaun The Sheep Farmageddon. They had all been looking forward to this and I aced the parenting card by only going late- therefore missing the trailers and ensuring all three sat through the whole film. Read between those lines-we once went really early and none of them settled by the time the film came on.

As school recommenced, it was back to routine but I hope their little heads are filled with lovely memories.

The temperatures have plummeted so they don’t get out much without 17 layers on but there is still fun to be had.

From climbing up large mounds of sand (which the boys call volcanos) to going on a picnic by the pond followed by dogs hoping for nit bits to ducks ambushing us for the actual lunch.

Just think, this time next month, things will be looking a lot like Christmas.
