Summer Infant Wide View Digital Baby Monitor- A Review

image

I am always hesitant to use the phrase life changing as something life changing for me might not be the same for someone else but, as a blogger, when I get sent things to review, I like to speak from the heart.

With this in mind, we were recently sent the Summer Infant Wide View Digital Baby Monitor. We have never used a video baby monitor before, always opting for the one which just transmits sound so I was interested to see what it would be like.

I am no good with technical things so I did worry about getting the cameras to synch so I left it in the box for a few days and kept walking past it, putting it off.

Eventually, I told myself I was being silly and unpacked the box-with both children in attendance-usually, not a wise move.

I put the parent station in the living room and plugged it in and then the camera unit. Boo did think it was an iPad and was very interested but soon lost interest when Sooty wasn’t coming on.

It started working straight away.
With having the two children, we were also sent a second camera (you can use up to four cameras with each parent station so no need to buy a whole new monitor if you have another baby) and that too was set up and ready to go in a matter of seconds.

I then positioned the cameras in their bedrooms and counted down the hours until bedtime so I could see what they were like.

The first night, I was glued. I think I watched little else that night. The novelty of seeing my children sleeping-something which I have never been able to do before was amazing.

The night vision is amazing and the sound is really clear.

I have Boo’s camera positioned on her pillow and Baby G’s so I can see the whole cot.

With hubster working all the time, I often had to wait until 10-11pm to go and do the dishes (our farmhouse is on three floors) and ordinarily, I needed to be within earshot in case either of the children woke up. The audio monitors we had didn’t reach through three floors of thick, stone, farmhouse.

With the Summer Infant Wide View Digital Baby Monitor, I can just place the parent station on the kitchen window sill and do whatever I want to do.

I can even do more blogging.

I was sceptical about video baby monitors before I tried this one out but I am honestly kicking myself for not getting one sooner.

They prevent so much worry.

If you have a child with a chronic condition like diabetes, asthma or epilepsy, they are honestly a godsend. There is no guess work involved. If there was a problem, you would be able to see it right there on the screen.

I also love the fact that if you have more children, you just need to get a new camera rather than a whole new unit.

There are options to watch each camera continuously or, if you have more than one camera, you can press a button and it flick each minute between the two.

The device has rechargeable batteries for handheld portability and 300m range. If it works in our house, which is old with thick walls across three stories, it will work in other houses.

There is also a two-way communication which allows me to shush to Baby G and watch to see if it soothes him or judge as to whether to go in.

I did worry with Boo being older that she might mess with the camera in her room but when I explained what it was, she hasn’t mentioned it again.

If you are in two minds about whether to get a video baby monitor, I would now tell you to buy one. I just wish we had five years ago when Boo was a baby.

The Summer Infant Wide View Digital Baby Monitor really has changed my life. It has given me more freedom in my own home as well as relieving some pressure of worry about my two beauties.

*We were sent the Summer Infant Wide View Digital Baby Monitor and the extra camera for the purpose of this review and all opinions are my own but I can honestly not recommend it enough.;p
