The Real Baking Set-Review and All Round Bake-Athon

I used to love baking with both of my grandmothers. I think it is where my love of baking and cooking was nurtured.

I remember making hideous concoctions out of herbs, icing sugar and tapioca and making my poor Nana taste them. She was always gracious.

It is due to their guidance though that I am really keen to get my children into baking. The Great British Bake Off transcends ages and it really ignites the baker in people so I decided to take advantage and get in the kitchen with my two.

We were lucky enough to be sent a great Baking Set by Vivid. Retailing at £19.99, the Real Baking Set contains 16 cupcase cases, four piping bags, three really cute measuring spoons, two mixing bowls, one suction cup, a silicone baking tray, an icing nozzle and, my own personal favourite part, an egg cracker.

Back in my experimental days with my Nana, I vividly remember crying because she let me try to crack and egg and it went on the floor. Bless her, she didn’t shout but I felt so awful about it.

This egg cracker would have solved everything. It is the perfect thing for kids baking.

So, what did we make?

Well, Boo’s school did a MacMillan Coffee Morning so we baked a lot of cakes for that.

There were mini Victoria sponges, mini fruit cakes, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes.

The set is great because it is just the right size for small hands. Boo loved stirring the mix and helping to put it into the cases.

The bowls have a suction cup to avoid them moving around when trying to mix which is a problem for every baker.

The beauty about the Great Baking Set is that while it is aimed at children, it all still does the job for baking in general-whoever is behind the mixer. So much so that I will use many of the items when I am baking myself. Just don’t tell Boo.
