5 Ways to Survive Night Feeds This Winter
The weather has definitely taken a cold turn and, if like me, you are up doing the night-feeds this Winter, you need to make sure you are warm.
What is the use of the baby being all snug in his or her sleeping bag if whoever is doing the feeding is shivering with cold?
I have been blessed with two January babies so this is something I have a lot of experience in. I did think Baby G’s night feeds may be coming to an end with the introduction of solids but it seems my boy copes with the pain of teething with milk and, honestly? I don’t blame him.
So here are my top five tips to survive night feeds in the Winter months.
1.Socks. Invest in a few pairs of furry, fluffy bed socks. Primark sell them. They don’t have to be expensive but I have found it is my feet that feel the coldest.
2.An attractive cardigan or dressing gown. Now night feeds are not the time to be worrying about appearance. The only person likely to see you is the baby and hopefully they wont remember be scarred for life at the sight of you in a hooded coat with an animal on it. The end.
3.A hot water bottle. This is genius in my opinion. At the beginning of the year, when Baby G was born, it was freezing. At bed time, I would out him back into his crib but the cold mattress would wake him up. I started putting a hot water bottle in his crib for ten minutes before I put him in and then-the best bit-when G went into the crib (still sleeping because of the warm mattress) I put the hot water bottle in my bed. Happy Mummy, happy baby.
4.Leggings. Bed leggings. They really are the future. I can’t be doing with regular pyjama bottoms. The bagginess of them really annoys me when I try to turn over in bed. Bed leggings or ‘beggings’ as I think they should be known are amazing. I got a pair from Asda for £6 and another pair is on my Christmas list. Festive pattern is optional but cheering on a baby night shift.
5.A blanket. If all else fails and everything above still leaves you cold, invest in a massive blanket that you can wrap under and around yourself.
Did you have a Winter baby? How did you get through?
oh yes the cold nights, i was going to move little 3 into his own room recently as he has (touch wood) begun sleeping much better but he is still a month later in with us as it is soooo much warmer just to grab him out the cot get back into bed and keep warm then pop him back when he drops off. I remember the night feeds with little 2, i’d grab slippers and a dressing gown and have a blanket on the chair for my knees! brrr
It’s my knees that feel cold too. How funny 🙂 thanks for reading. We are all in this together xx
That hot water bottle in the crib thing is the business! I was literally fist pumping in the dark when I discovered that one. Socks, leggings, dressing gown and blanket is basically my style night feed or not!
haha me too! Especially as you get to have it yourself too 🙂
