A Country Cottage Door Stop

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been busy. I received a metre of fabric from Hilary’s Blinds with which to craft something amazing.

I carefully measured out a house shape on card. I realised the apex of the roof would have to match for the front and back of the fabric to meet.

I choose a lovely striped fabric called Hatti Raspberry because it went with my decor.

I turned the fabric around for the front of the door stop so that I could decorate it. I did the decorating before I sewed it up, sewing buttons on the roof, flower buttons around the door and a cherry tree outside.

I used the raspberry fabric for the door, adding a handle. Them I used white felt for the windows and used fabric pens for the panes. Then added a ribbon to the top of the door stop so it can be moved around.

Then came my favourite bit. Hilary’s is after all, about window dressings so I made a little pair of curtains and a Roman blind because, let’s face it, what Country Cottage would be complete without some wonderful window dressings from Hilary’s?

I am quite pleased with my effort. Considering I have a young baby and have been up past 11pm a few nights to get it finished (rock and roll) it is not too bad.

You can find out more about the 2015 Hilary’s Craft Competition, here. Fingers crossed my humble cottage makes the cut (sorry I couldn’t resist that one).
