Choosing Baby Names
Choosing a name for your baby can be serious business. Not only do both you and your partner need to agree on it but there is the added weight that your child’s first name will be with them for the rest of their lives.
In terms of security, my kids are known as Boo and Beb on the blog but for those of you who know me or, the eagle-eyed amongst you, I’m sure you can gather what they are really called.
Even when we were pregnant with Boo, we decided if the baby was a boy we would call, it George. This was in 2010-11 long before Prince George. You see, it means farmer in Greek. What else could a farmer and his wife call a boy, right?
Well as you know, it was a girl and we called her Elizabeth or Betty Boo, hence the Boo.
Beb is now seven weeks old and we finally got our George.
Here’s the thing though. As we had Boo, we were fully aware that a certain little pig’s brother was also called George, I never really noticed how much merchandise was out there.
Our George can have personalised clothing, toys, bedding, for free. How cool is that?
If I see something George Pig I can’t help myself.
Despite my dislike for anything Peppa when I had Boo (I underestimated the power of the pig) I am now under no illusion how much kids love her and her little brother.
To be honest, in the early days when Boo wasn’t so keen on Beb, comparing him to George pig may have been confusing but, it was the only thing that got us through-“Peppa loves her brother George” that kind of thing.
In the grand scheme of things, it could be worse. We could have named him after Iggle Piggle or Mr Grouper.
Does your name mean something special or did you name your children after someone?
Our childrens middle names are after other family members and first names are names we liked.
Lily Louise – we loved the name Lily and my nan (on both mum and dad’s side) was called Lily so it just seemed to fit, and Louise is after hubby’s sister.
Declan Wyn – we got the name Declan from neighbours and loved it and Wyn is after hubby’s middle name, and his dads middle name.
Harry Thomas – I have no idea why we liked the name Harry it was just always there, and Thomas is after my dad’s middle name!!
I always wanted a George, I love that name!
