Sheep Shearing 2015
Yesterday was my favourite day if the farming year. Sheep shearing.
The actual technical side of the day was unchanged from last year so if you want to read about that, you can here.
The differences this year were obviously out new addition, our little farm baby who had some milk, looked at the sheep for a bit and then fell asleep, missing most of the action.
Boo really seemed to enjoy the day and there were plenty of opportunities for selfies and family photos.
We sheared them in the yard last year but this time we did them in the field to avoid stress to the animals and, to be honest, it is less work.
As usual, everyone worked so hard and the children and I arrived for the best bits. Lunch and Minty, our pet sheep getting sheared.
Poor old Archie, our Norfolk terrier was also sheared again.
Sheep shearing is a day of team work, jokes and hard work and it looks like Boo has also begun to enjoy it. Let’s hope Baby G does too.
Oh, that looks like such a good day Emma! I absolutely love that you got your dog sheared too! 🙂
Looks like lots of fun! xx
What a lovely family time with your sheep. Love the sheep photo bombed shot; her hop adds that bit extra to the pic. 🙂 #AnimalTales
Lucas says – I loved learning about giving the sheep a hair cut (sorry – I’m only 6 and this is what it sounded like!) It sounds great fun but very hard work 😉 #animaltales
Ha ha that’s exactly how I described it to Booble 😉
We got our sheep sheared this week – all TWO of them but with a heatwave forecast for the next few days it was not a minute too soon – I *think* they said thank you as they shot off across the field afterwards feeling several pounds lighter!
Many thanks for adding this wool reducing tale to #AnimalTales and apologies for commenting so late – life (and sheep shearing) rather got in the way of blogging this week!
did you get the kids to line up for their annual haircut also, love the dog getting sheared. Why was is less work having the sheep sheared in the field rather than the yard?
Ha ha that’s a good idea for next year 😉
We would have had to load them all into the trailer and bring them over and that would then cause stress for the lambs as they would have been in the field apart from their mothers. Plus it’s hard work actually getting them to go into the trailer
