Organic Feed Your Happy-Our Happy Meal
As a mother, I feel as if I spend my whole life trying to make my family happy. If they are happy, I am happy and one of the best ways to make them happy is to cook nice meals that they enjoy to eat.
The way to a man’s heart may well be through his stomach but with three little farm children too, it is there stomachs that I also have to please.
This month is Organic September and I have taken part in a challenge to cook my happiest, organic meal to celebrate.
Only good, fresh, organic and British produce may apply. I thought long and hard about what to cook for this meal and I decided on comfort food as well as easiness level because, let’s face it, there’s no point having a happy family if the chef is a stressed out mess.
In the end, I decided to stick with what I know best-sheep. Now usually, it is lamb on the menu in our house but, for a change, I choose some organic mutton from the Well Hung Meat Company.
The Well Hung Meat Company aspires to be the UK’s leading provider of exceptional quality, locally-sourced meat products. The company, based in Devon is passionate about healthy food produced in an ethical and sensitive way that enriches our planet and its inhabitants. They deliver nationwide.
Our sumptuous shoulder of mutton won Gold in the ‘Taste of the West Gold’ Awards 2015 and arrived amazingly well packed and ready to be cooked.
I apply the same rule to all good British meat-it doesn’t need too much doing to it and, while mutton is more gamey than lamb, I cooked it in the same way.
All I did was put it in the slow cooker with a sprig of rosemary.
The slow cooker is an amazing way to cook joints of lamb and mutton. You don’t have to do much to it and the slow cooking makes it incredibly soft and tender, just falling off the bone.
‘Organic. Feed Your Happy’ is all about encouraging people to share food that makes them happy.
Sara Cox, one of the UK’s most loved BBC presenters, is the ambassador of ‘Organic. Feed Your Happy’.

Sara will also be sharing her happy food stories in a selection of short films throughout the week.
Organic farming uses fewer pesticides, contains no artificial colours and preservatives, is always free range. The animals have no routine use of antibiotics and there are no GM ingredients.
I served my happy meal with creamy mashed potato, cabbage and leek. Perfect.
Everyone cleared their plates which made me happy.
They all had full tummies which made them happy.
We also know that everything organic on our plate means the animals were happy too. The meat was British which makes British farmer’s happy.
Everyone’s happy.
