Christmas Books and some interesting Baking
It is Christmas Eve in the Tales from Christmas Wood book by Suzy Senior and illustrated by James Newman Gray.
This heart-warming tale with lovely images is perfect for any Winter’s night.
From Tiny Mouse and the Gingerbread Mystery to a Christmas Eve Adventure, your little ones will love these timeless tales and, the best bit?
They are separated into bite-sized stories so you don’t have to read them all at once.
Boo loves mice characters and really liked the mice family baking so we had a go at baking gingerbread too.
Se rolled it out herself and chose her cutters.
I had tried to guide her to choose stars cutters like Tiny Mouse in the story but, true to form, my daughter had other ideas and opted for Minnie Mouse and a tractor. I managed to grab a bit of the dough and made a snowflake and a Christmas tree.
It was like the story itself as, after they had been baked, most of the biscuits went in Boo’s mouth as we waited for the chocolate icing pens to melt.
I always think it is the taking part that counts and, since we hardly spend any time alone together since Baby G arrived, it was so nice to use a couple of hours of baby nap time to have some mummy and daughter time.
Tales from Christmas Wood is such a delightful book that I am sure we will re-visit year after year and if I know my daughter, it probably won’t just be at Christmas.
Our next Christmas book is called The Midnight Visitors and is a lovely rendition of the Nativity Story-told from the perspective of Miriam the cow, which I think is very apt for us.
It tells of how, on a cold night in Bethlehem, a series of families seek shelter and Miriam has to move over in her barn for her guests.
It is yet another heart-warming tale of community and sharing at Christmas time. Miriam gets little sleep that night but, as she says herself, it is a night she would never forget.
Children will love the book-especially with the addition of all the animals in the barn too.
We will be saving this book for Christmas Eve.
I was sent Tales from Christmas Wood as part of my ambassadorship for Lion Children’s Books but all opinions and dodgy gingerbread are my own.
