Introducing the New Teletubbies to a New Generation

I’ve got a bit of a confession to make. When I was at university, my friends and I regularly watched Teletubbies.
They really were all the rage with toddlers and students alike.
Now I am a mother, I was so pleased to hear that a new series had been made but my own personal love of Teletubbies has not diminished at all.
Indeed when writing this post, I went onto the Cbeebies website and took a test to see which Teletubbie I am. I’m Laa Laa if you’re wondering which pleased me because I love yellow.
Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po are still the stars of the show but the programme has been refreshed to give a more contemporary look and feel to it.
You can see why toddlers and pre-schoolers love Teletubbies so much. The catchy theme tune which make their heads turn when it comes on, the bright colourful characters and their infectious joy.
The baby in the sun is now a new baby and there is a part of the show which shows a video clip of children which corresponds to whatever that particular episode is about. I cannot remember this bit from my student days but, seeing as though I was probably in a haze of snakebite and black or the like, that is not to say it wasn’t there.
G is the most active child I have ever known. He is never, ever still. Even in his sleep he roams around the cot.
I put Teletubbies on BBC iPlayer on the iPad and sat him on the sofa.
I could not believe it. He was mesmerised. He sat there for the whole episode and I even managed to put another episode on.
I know he loves Twirliwoos and Waybuloo so I was hopeful that Teletubbies would also be appreciated but nothing could have prepared me for the concentration on his little face as he watched.
He especially loved the baby in the sun and the clip of the children but he had a little smile on his face when the Teletubbies were bouncing around the screen and, I think the fact he stayed as still as he did is testament to his new found love.
Better still, I got to enjoy a whole mug of coffee that was still warm.
I think we are on to a winner.
