Just Another Manic MumDay
We all live busy lives but a new survey suggests it is mums who usually bare the brunt of most of the busiest bits.
According to the study, commissioned by Toby Carvery, the average mum doesn’t sit down until 8.07pm. This is the average. Many won’t sit down until much later than that.
Clearing up dishes after meals was the top night time chore with 83 per cent of mums saying this was on their agenda most nights.
Added to this, mealtimes emerged as the biggest chore overall for the nation’s women – serving up meals was second in the list of tasks (78 per cent), followed by prepping and cooking meals (77 per cent).
Now regular readers of this blog will know that all the domestic and childcare chores fall onto my shoulders. I don’t mind. It is how our family works.
There are evenings however where I just simply cannot be bothered to cook. Whether I have forgotten to get something out of the freezer, I can’t be bothered to cook the thing I did get out of the freezer or if I just don’t fancy that thing after all, we all have days like that.
This is where Toby Carvery comes into its own. While take away is ok once in a while, for me, it is home cooked meals which appeal-not only do they taste good but they are crowd pleasers. Who doesn’t love a roast? Just think of the most epic Sunday dinner ever-without the preparations or the washing up.
Roasts are wonderful but when I think of the effort which goes into making one and the sheer amount of washing up, I actually want to go and sit in a corner on my own for a bit.
So last week, after visiting my friend and her baby and then clearing up from Hubster having to make his own lunch, the thought of having to start cooking again, left me wanting to go to that corner-it was becoming my favourite place to be.
Thankfully, the day was saved by my local Toby Carvery and off we all trooped for a wonderful meal.
We picked the right time of year as, near to Christmas, their festive menu kicks into place with turkey and seasonal vegetables like sprouts, red cabbage and parsnips-my favourite.
It was delicious.
It was the first time I had relaxed during a meal for a long time.
All the family enjoyed it. Even the baby had some turkey and vegetables and we even had room left to share an ice cream sundae.
The best bit? No washing up AND no fishing food out of the high chair.
Despite offering to do so, the lovely staff assured me that they were used to messy babies and it was fine.
The run up to Christmas makes us even busier. Give yourself a night off tonight and head to your local Toby Carvery.
*We were treated to the above meal for the purpose of this post but all opinions are my own.
