Schleich Farm World Toys-A Review

You can’t go wrong with farm toys here, so when Schleich got in touch for us to have a play with a selection of their Farm World toys, how could we refuse?

We are already well acquainted with Schleich because of their large range of realistic farm animals (where else would you find a pygmy goat toy?) and, we were sent:

A Large Farmhouse RRP £80

Tractor with Trailer RRP £45

Farm Playmat RRP £25

The package arrived on a Friday so I just got the playmat out after school and they loved putting the Schleich animals they already had in the different areas.

It is a perfect base for carpet farmers everywhere and provides a dedicated space for realistic farm play. I got told off for putting a chicken in the pond area. Silly me. Carpet isn’t always a friend to toy farm animals but the sturdy material which the mat is made from means even the smallest of sheep legs will still stand up on it.

It is also great for getting stains off. Much to my dismay, a blueberry was squished into the mat before I took the photos and it came right off with a baby wipe. Since receiving the mat, it has also been vacuumed each day and has really weathered well.

It is actually a relief to me that we now have a dedicated farm toy area in the living room rather than the previous free for all.

I realised I would have to build the house so I waited for them to go to bed and, glass of wine placed precariously on a toy hay bale, I began.

The Large Farmhouse is the centre piece of the Schleich Farm World collection and I can honestly see why. The set includes a whole host of accessories which are really true to life and very high quality. I am not going to lie here, I am usually not very good at putting toys together but I really enjoyed doing the farmhouse because I knew how excited the children would be when they saw it and, it was actually really easy to do.

At the time of review, my kids were nine, five and three (the recommended age group for the toys is three to eight) and they were all pleased with the toys.

There is a living area, kitchen, bedroom and balcony. There is also a hay loft with a winch for transporting hay, a paddock for the animals and a stable. The hose pipe on the side of the house (which can be pulled out and retracted) was a lovely touch and even the bench seat could be lifted up so that pretend contents could be viewed.

I loved that farm animals and a farming couple were also included in the set and tiny details like a dog bowl, a mouse and a window box was amazing. Even the door on the wood burning stove can be opened and a stack of logs placed into it.

To complete the farm scene, the tractor with trailer was a very welcome addition. It was really easy to put together and the children loved it because it was just like daddy’s (but green). The front loader makes it easy to transport bales onto the trailer and transport them around the room to the farm.

When we have had tractor toys before, you just get the vehicles. Not with Schleich. A farmer, calf a large round bale and vehicle stickers are also included. I am the proud owner of a three year old with the biggest farm-toy rage imaginable. Not being able to hook trailers on tractors, tractor doors not opening and figures not able to fit inside the machinery are all trigger points for him.

As I put the tractor toy together, I actually squealed with delight at the opening cab door and the ability for the farmer figure to actually fit inside. The rage is real so this is such a relief.

All Schleich figures are faithful recreations of the originals and represent educationally valuable play. There are so many options in all of the toys for children to put their own slant on the games too. From changing the configuration of the fencing in the farmhouse toy to deciding which animals will go in the paddock, even the wheel barrow has been used to carry an array of accessories and animals to the destination my mini farmers have wished.

The beauty of the toys is the they are part of a huge collection of Farm World items and I have my eye on the chicken coop and rabbit hutch next to extend the set further.

We really enjoyed playing with the Schleich Farm World sets and I know we will enjoy them for many years to come.

*We were sent the Large Farmhouse, Tractor with Trailer and the Farm Playmat for the purpose of this review but all opinions are my own.
