Oh brandy….you came and I took without sharing…
So I try to make a Christmas cake every year. I try out different recipes to spice it up a bit (pardon the pun). I even made my own wedding cake-we did get married at the end of December so it was almost Christmas.
I have a problem though.
Remember the song:
As I make it at the end of October, that is quite a few weeks of ‘feeding’ the cake with alcohol.
I usually use brandy but I bought my brandy when I bought the rest of the ingredients. Left the dried fruit soaking over night and then gave the cake a little ‘feed’ when it was baked.
Then I rewarded myself by drinking most of the brandy that was left. To be fair it was only a small bottle and once the cake had be sated, there wasn’t much left but still.
I’m not going to lie, apart from the Christmas I was pregnant with Boo, I do the same thing.
I didn’t even make a cake the year I was pregnant-maybe I thought I couldn’t trust myself with the brandy.
So since Brandy-gate 2013 as it is now going to be known, I haven’t bought any more.
I’ve been using my husband’s whiskey which I would not drink.
The next dilemma is it is pay-day on Friday and, with only four more weekends until Christmas, can I trust myself?
One for the cake….three for me..one for the cake…
