Blog Props
A year ago, I attended my first ever blogging conference, Blog On at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
I had a brilliant day and learnt so much.
One of my favourite sessions was the photography with Lucy Heath from Capture By Lucy who is an amazingly, talented blogger who oozes enthusiasm for beautiful things and photography.
I came away from the session feeling inspired but, and I’m not going to lie, photographing children and animals can be hard so it didn’t take long to fall back into my old, boring-photography-habits.
Well, seeing as though I have postponed my weight loss goals until after the baby, I have decided to establish my own little blog-prop box. Inspired by Capture By Lucy.
Believe it or not, I found a piece of fake grass in some rubble on the farm. I washed it and that was one of the first things I placed in my box.
Two strings of battery-powered fairy lights were next for times when things need to be a bit twinkly.
I have a couple of pieces of fabric for backdrops.
I have some Bananagrams which are great for spelling things out and looking pretty.
At Christmas, I got a wooden chopping board with some cheese and I have put this in the box, it might make a good backdrop at some point.
The tinsel is for Christmas posts next year so that I don’t have to unpack the decorations like I did last year.
I also have a colour wheel which Lucy handed out at Blog On and can be downloaded here. Unfortunately, I left it on the desk in the office and Hubster used it as a note pad-sorry Lucy, I did slap his wrist.
My only blog prop remorse?
I saw some beautiful spoons in Homesense and I didn’t buy them. I will be back as soon as I can to see if they are still there.
I can’t promise my photos of Minty and the rabbits will get any better but I am really going to try and take some better pictures this year and let’s see how big my blog-prop box gets by the end of the year.
What a great idea. I’ve never thought of having a prop box for taking images.
Oh wow what a wonderful post! Thank you. So glad you felt inspired. The thing is, it doesn’t matter when you put into practise anything you hear or do at conferences it’s wonderful whenever!! He he no probs about the notes! xxx
Thank you Lucy. You are so lovely. Loving the new hair colour in your picture xx
I need this to keep my stuff together. At the moment, I’ve got some bits in the bedroom, some in the utlilty room, some in the larder. Must get more organised…or maybe just clear out on of the utility room cupboards and put my box in there.
What a lovely idea! I’m always taking photos with the same backgrounds and am trying to have a few things on hand to change the scene a bit x
