Harringtons Pet food-the natural choice for the pooch in your life

Living on a farm, we have a LOT of animals. From the livestock to our long list of pets, we are always buying animal feed.

So when the lovely people at Harringtons, the natural choice, offered me the chance to review some dog food, I jumped at the chance.

My first tester was Rosie our house dog who, compared to the farm dogs, really does have the golden ticket. While the other two shiver in all weathers in their kennel, Rosie warms herself in her soft bed by the radiator and enjoys treats fed by our toddler. She is part of the family.

Possibly due to her pampered upbringing however, Rosie is a bit of a diva and is very fussy with food.

She will usually only eat wet food and it has to be in a foil tray and be pate style-no gravy or jelly.

I have to admit it, I was worried when the Harringtons dog food arrived as I hadn’t realised it was dry.

It is billed as: “a complete pet food that can be fed to all dogs from 8 weeks onwards. It has been carefully formulated to provide wholesome nutrition and contains no artificial colours or flavours, no dairy, no soya and no added wheat. Harringtons provides the conventional benefits associated with premium foods. Available in 2kg, 5kg and 15kg bags”

After that kind of description, I had to try Rosie with it so I got her bowl and opened the packet.

It is lamb flavour and, despite the fact that I am vegetarian, I had a little sniff. It didn’t smell too bad to be honest. Much better than the wet food she usually has that stinks her corner of the kitchen out for ten minutes after she has eaten it.

The aroma that wafted from the packet must have attracted my little pooch though as she sat patiently at my feet while I poured it into her bowl-her little tail wagging frenziedly.

The little nuggets were all the same which I was glad about.

On the odd occasion when she has had dry food in the past, she has a bad habit of selecting food.

Have your pets done this? My rabbits are the worst for it-any muesli style food and they will select their favourite food and leave the rest and I am afraid Rosie was guilty of this so a style of food which has all the nutrition in each bite is a great advantage to me.

I had nothing to worry about.

Harringtons dog food went down a treat.

(I love her face when she is crunching).

We had one happy little dog.

Next were the farm dogs.

Dougie, a Jack Russell and Archie our Norfolk Terrier are our guard dogs.

Don’t look very fierce do they?

They are true farm dogs and bark at any intruders. Living together gives them a healthy appetite too-we have to separate them while they eat for jealousy purposes.

Unfortunately, I had the camera in one hand and the bowl of food in another and, they likes Harringtons so much, I didn’t get a photo of them eating it. Take my word for it though, they were impressed.

Harringtons also do food for cats, rabbits and other small animals which I am definitely going to check out as we have a bit of a menagerie going on here.

The food is also available to buy in France so if you are going on holiday there or know anyone in France, be sure to tell them about Harringtons to make their petit chiens très heureux.

Bon apetit!
