Seven year olds being taught sex education and other nonsense

Should seven year old children be taught sex education?

This would mean Boo, would be learning this so-called ‘age appropriate sex education.’ in another three and half years.

I am totally against it.

In a statement, David Laws, the education minister, has said that academies and free schools should have to teach sex and relationship education. Under current rules, sex and relationship education is compulsory in council-run secondary schools, but not for academies and free schools, and not for primary school pupils.

There was uproar recently when Primark sold padded bikinis to young children yet it would be ok to teach them the ins and outs of sexual contact?

What is age appropriate sex education anyway?

Children grow up too fast these days. Girls especially have a whole host of over-sexualised images to contend with, even from dolls and make-up pressures.

Thankfully, living on a farm, I actually don’t think Boo will have to ask where babies come from. She sees mating most of the time from the sheep and the rabbits.

She’s even seen daddy with his hand up a cow and a sheep helping them to birth and lambs being born are an every day occurrence, in the spring anyway.

We are lucky.

Whether we lived on a farm or not however, I would hope to be the one to teach my child about sex education.

I am bringing Boo up Catholic so I hope she will go to a Catholic school. I did look at other local non-religious schools however and was appalled that they even mentioned sex education in the prospectus.

I understand girls start their periods younger now. I was young myself, but talking about periods can be done without having to explain the ins and outs of sex.

The implications go further. Would I have to stop my child playing with children from other schools who could tell her what they have learnt?

Apparently, David Law, Michael Gove’s replacement said: “Teaching these important life lessons will help to build the stronger economy and fairer society that Liberal Democrats want to see.”

I just can’t equate how they think this will happen by sullying the innocence of small children.

The most ironic part of this whole story however is that Nick Clegg’s children go to one of the best Catholic schools in the country. His Spanish wife is Catholic. So it is ok for every one else’s kids to learn about sex while his children will be still in their faith school bubble?

A lot of people criticise faith schools. I for one, am glad Boo will be attending one.

  1. Hmm very interesting. When I read your post title, and the first few lines, I initially thought ‘why not? Better that they know the facts than are dangerously ignorant. We always tell our little bear the truth. Like when daddy was a bit hungover at the weekend (!), we told her it was because he’d had too much grown up drink… But then, yes our children do grow up quickly enough, thank you very much. Their brains are surely not mature enough to cope with this subject at such an early age… but sadly whether we like it not, the big wide world is more mature than we would perhaps like…
