The 3 day diet
My friend introduced me to this diet over ten years ago. In my 20s it was a great way to kick-start my dieting if I had hit a plateaux in weight loss.
The diet claims you can lose up to ten pounds in the three days.
I only lost ten pounds the first time I did it. After that, it was between three and seven pounds weight loss over the three days.
I have to lose two stones by May. I have lost a bit of weight since Christmas but I thought I would do this to kick start my diet.
If anything, it at least get you used to eating less. This is the diet. It is Americanised so in brackets I have put the British equivalent….
Day One
Breakfast–1/2 grapefruit, 1 slice of toast, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, and Coffee or Tea (black).
Lunch--1/2 Cup of tuna, 1 slice of toast, and Coffee or Tea.
Dinner–3 ounces of any type of meat, 1 cup of green beans, 1/2 banana, 1 small apple, and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.
Day Two
Breakfast–1 egg, 1 slice of toast, and ½ banana
Lunch–1 cup of cottage cheese , and 5 saltine crackers (think TUC or Ritz crackers).
Dinner--2 hot dog sausages, 1 cup of broccoli, 1/2 cup of carrots, 1/2 banana, and 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream
Day three
Breakfast–5 saltine crackers, 1 ounce cheese, and 1 small apple
Lunch-1 hard-boiled egg, and 1 slice of toast
Dinner–1 cup of tuna, 1/2 of a banana, and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.
It is hard. I think some of the foods are strange combinations. On the internet it does say you shouldn’t swap any of the foods but I am vegetarian so I swap the tuna for cottage cheese, the hot dogs I use are Quorn and the meat is Quorn deli meat. Oh and I didn’t have the grapefruit on the first day because I’m not that keen on them.
The verdict? I only lost three pounds. I would have liked more but, to be honest, I did have milk in my coffee (I was stricter in my 20s but I didn’t have a three-year-old then who robbed me of sleep).
I was brave and did it Saturday, Sunday, Monday. With just over three months to lose the weight, I cannot afford to ‘start Monday’ and at least it is over with now. It has made me eat less today though because you eat so little the three previous days. I suppose the big thing though is that there are so little carbohydrates involved that I didn’t have the energy to exercise so I think that is a big factor into why I don’t feel any thinner.
I am the fad-diet queen I am afraid, but it keeps me occupied. The best news is, my salad for dinner tonight will be appreciated much more than it did last week.
What’s the weirdest diet you’ve ever done?
I am not a dieter. I eat cleanly and it does me just fine 🙂
I did the Master Juice Cleanse – never again. I to just limit my refined sugar now.. . that being said I had a very chocolate day today 🙂 I blame the hormones!
ooo I’ve not tried that one! *rushes to google it 😉
Well impressed that you can get on a diet and stick to it! I have tired in the past and lasted less than two hours! Ha 😉
hehe I think you must be very slim and not need to diet 😀
I am trying not to think about dieting and seeing if that works 😉
I like it but I can no longer hide 😉
I have tried lots of mad diets in the past, the F Plan, the grapefruit and boiled egg one and the Atkins. I really don’t believe diets work now.
oh gosh, I can’t stick to diets at all. i get so fed up and grumpy. I’m impressed by your will power 🙂
oh gosh, i’m impressed by your will power – I can’t stick to diets at all. Well done.
I’m rubbish at dieting – I did every single fad when I was younger and actually slimmer, now I can’t get past lunchtime without something of the chocolate or crisp variety! I wish I had your willpower 🙂
