My Boy is Six Months Old

Six months.

Six whole months.

It’s similar to when you tell people you are pregnant after the 12 week scan. You then have six months to wait until your baby arrives.

Aren’t those six months just the longest?

The last six months of pregnancy can feel like six years but I kid you not, the past six months with Baby G have absolutely flown by.

To think, when Boo was six months old, I went back to work. I can’t even think about leaving my boy yet. I thank my lucky stars that I am able to take the full year off this time.

Literally, three minutes ago, a tiny, wriggly baby was put into my arms for the first time.

Three minutes ago, I was giggling with Hubster that this little, wrinkly boy looked like Phil Mitchell as the they stitched me up.

Three minutes ago, I sat on the living room floor, crying, because it was half term, Boo was driving me mad and I couldn’t drive to eliminate the cabin fever.

Three minutes ago, Baby G was in Micro Nappies-the smallest they do.

All of a sudden, I look into his cot from my bed and the tiny baby is now filling half of his cot.

He has been in 6-9 month clothes for a good few weeks, is rolling over and is just an absolute delight.

He and his sister are getting on much better. To be honest, G has idolised this girl since the day he arrived. Boo has taken a bit more time to accept that this little creature is staying but they have come a long way and, as long as G learns not to touch Minnie Mouse, things might just work.

These last six months have been an absolute joy. Yes I have been tired (and more so than after Boo because of the caesarean) but I have enjoyed every minute.

From the hair pulling, the smell in the car that Hubster swore was sewage being spread on the fields but I was adamant that it was George’s nappy (it was) and him laughing at the dog, I have clung to each moment and drank it all in.

I feel like the first six months with Boo, I just wanted to get it over with. I felt like I’d never sleep again. I thought it would never get better.

That makes me feel guilty because maybe I didn’t enjoy her first six months enough.

I have made up for it now though. I know that some day, I will sleep more and, most importantly, especially with Boo starting school in September, I know how quickly time goes.

If you are a first-time-mum, struggling with the enormity of parenthood, just sit back, relax and go with the flow.

People will repeatedly say to you that it goes too quick.

They are not making it up. It really does.

My boy is six months old.

  1. Oh this is so true. Your boy is a beaut! How many times have I wished the minutes away to get my baby to bed, only to miss her once she is tucked up and asleep! I heard a lovely quote ages ago, that I try to remember: “The days will be long, but the years will go quick.”

  2. He’s gorgeous!! You’re right though it’s scary how quickly time goes. If we ever have another I will try & appreciate those first few months a bit more, with a mix of having my c-section & being exhausted I don’t think I did with Mini M xx

  3. Every stage goes so quickly and in a flash they’re at school and you’ve no idea where the last five years went! It’s easy to wish away time to get to an easier stage but you’re so right – each bit should be savoured. Enjoy.

  4. Awww he is so gorgeous. You’re so right how quickly time goes! It seems like yesterday that I couldn’t imagine my daughter being one! She’s 17 months old now! I can’t believe how much has changed in the last year and how quickly! I definitely appreciate it more now that I’ve realised how fast it goes.xx #maternitymonday

  5. The time is speeding past! It doesn’t feel like it’s been 6 months. He is absolutely beautiful and looks so cheeky in the last photo x #maternitymondays

  6. Aw I loved reading this, reminded me of our first few months with two boys. And I can totally relate to your little one accepting baby G, my two get on as long as they don’t touch each others things. My youngest is now 2 and it makes me weep as time goes so quickly #maternitymondays xx

  7. Ah! What a gorgeous boy. I hope you continue to enjoy him as much as you obviously have been over the last six months! Makes me feel broody 😉 #maternitymondays

  8. The last 6 months of pregnancy take forever but the first 6 months of a baby’s life fly by. Lovely photos, enjoy every minute! #maternitymondays

  9. Bless him that time has flown as I remember your birth story! I think I will chill more second time around as I feel the same; don’t think I made the most of it really. He’s a little cutie and won’t be long before he’s running after his big sister xxx Thanks for hosting #maternitymondays

  10. Erghh it just goes too quickly, Elarna is 4 months on Wednesday and I actually can’t believe it! I keep trying to take in every single day but each day goes so quickly! Lovely post.

  11. He’s so cute! Writing will hopefully help you appreciate all of the big (and some of the small) moments as they fly by. At least that’s what I’m hoping!!

  12. So many told me how quickly the time goes and many times I couldn’t believe them. And now over 18m, I look back and ask where the time went?

6 precious months, what wonderful memories. May you enjoy the months ahead even more. #MaternityMondays
